Ajax star Hakim Ziyech handed major blow ahead of Chelsea transfer

Hakim Ziyech has been handed a blow after Ajax were denied the 2019/20 Eredivisie title ahead of his move to Chelsea.

The Moroccan will move to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season after a deal between the two clubs was agreed earlier this year.

However, Ziyech was hopeful of parting Amsterdam with another Eredivisie title under his belt, with his side leading the table over AZ Alkmaar on goal difference.

However, whilst some leagues have opted to cancel their leagues and freeze the league table, Ajax have been told they will not be crowned champions.

Equally, ADO Den Haag and RKC Waalwijk, who currently reside in the Eredivisie relegation zone, will not be relegated from the top-tier of Dutch football and there will be no promotion for the sides in the second-tier.

This is the first example in European football of these decisions being taken, with Belgian football opting to end their season but award runaway league-leaders Club Brugge the title.

The Premier League and EFL remain committed to completing the 2019/20 season.

UEFA have also again this week reiterated their intention to finish the Champions League and Europa League.
