Ajax star Donny van de Beek makes big Tottenham Hotspur claim ahead of Champions League clash

Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek has suggested that Spurs are favourites to qualify for the Champions League final despite the fact the Dutch giants have beaten both Real Madrid and Juventus in the competition so far.

The Lilywhites face Ajax in the first leg of the European tie on Tuesday at the new Tottenham stadium, with the visitors given a week off by the Eredivisie in preparation for the match.

Ajax have had a tough route to the final after qualifying second from their group though they have remained unbeaten other than the defeat to Los Blancos at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

The reason Mauricio Pochettino & Daniel Levy were desperate to move into the new Spurs stadium

Spurs had a tougher time in the group stages as they went winless in their opening three matches before eventually making it out of the group behind Barcelona. The Lilywhites then eased past Borussia Dortmund before qualifying in dramatic circumstances against Manchester City in the last round.

While van de Beek doesn't believe his team are favourites, he believes the Amsterdam side can pull off another upset.

As reported by HITC he said: "I don't agree with that. Tottenham is one of the top teams in the Premier League and they are still my favourite.

Danny Rose reveals the crucial factors that will help Spurs in the transfer market this summer

"That does not mean that we cannot beat them. We will have to reach a high level to beat Tottenham. It will depend on our own form. let's hope it is top.

"We are not afraid anyway. The only thing we can do is reach the same level as we have achieved in other competitions. We know it's a top team."
