Zinedine Zidane is in the market for another midfielder this summer.
Manchester United's Paul Pogba and Tottenham's Christian Eriksen have been the two most strongly linked with a move to the Bernabeu this summer.
But there is another name in the frame too - Donny van de Beek.
Pogba remains the number one choice for Zidane, with the Real Madrid manager forcing the issue with the Los Blancos hierarchy, who had been more keen on Eriksen.
But Spurs could be boosted by the fact that Ajax star van de Beek has emerged as a potential target for Madrid.
Madrid are in talks with the Dutch giants over a move for the 22-year-old, who was one of the breakout stars of last season's Champions League campaign.
That's according to the player himself.
Speaking over the weekend, the Ajax man said: "They are in talks with Ajax, there’s interest, I can’t say anything else.
"No doubt that my agent has talked with them. It is what it is, but I’d rather talk about football."
Ajax have Champions League third qualifying round matches against Greek side PAOK this week and next week to try and secure a place in the play-off round and according to AD.nl , the Dutch side are keen to keep hold of van de Beek at least until the end of the tie with PAOK.
Eriksen remains on Real's radar, however, and the common consensus in Spain is that van de Beek is the Spanish side's third choice midfielder.
Pogba remains the number one choice, with Eriksen the number two target, so any move for van de Beek would appear to be reliant on Madrid failing in their pursuit of both Pogba and Eriksen.
