Ajax receive £75million bid for Matthijs de Ligt amid Man Utd transfer interest

Juventus have made a £75m bid for Matthijs de Ligt, according to reports from Italy.

Holland international De Ligt is being courted by a number of European clubs including Manchester United and Barcelona but it is the Old Lady who are attempting to get in there first and sign the 19-year-old.

De Ligt is the most sought after player in the world this summer after a sensational last season in which he captained Ajax to title success in Holland and the semi-final of the Champions League.

Barcelona are favourites to secure his signature, and representatives from the Catalan club have spoken to De Ligt's agent Mino Raiola.

But the Nou Camp club have been reluctant to offer De Ligt big wages, which Manchester United are apparently prepared to do.

The Red Devils however cannot offer the centre-back Champions League football nor the chance to compete for a title in his first season.

And so while deals with the two clubs have stalled, Juventus have swooped in to make a bid for the player in the hope of signing him from under the noses of their European rivals, according to Tuttosport.

De Ligt has been open about his plans in interviews in recent weeks, although hasn't name-dropped any particular club.

It does however appear that his heart is set on a move to either the Premier League or La Liga, as opposed to Serie A.

De Ligt told ESPN: "Where do I see myself? Well, obviously, the Premier League is a big competition, Spain also," he said. "But you have other competitions, it's not just about those two.

"I still don't know anything about where my future is, so I see how it goes. First we have to play two games and then after that I will see what happens next."
