Ajax fans bring Leicester Square to standstill in raucous scenes ahead of Tottenham clash

Partying Ajax fans brought Leicester Square to a standstill ahead of their match at Tottenham this evening.

The Dutch giants head to Spurs for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final after a memorable continental campaign so far.

They saw off reigning champions Real Madrid , who have won four of the last five titles, in the last 16 before beating Cristiano Ronaldo's Juventus int he quarter-finals.

Fans gathered in Leicester Square to drink and kick around a football as the last four of Europe's premier cup competition gets underway.

Ajax have been successful with a swashbuckling style of play so far in Europe this term, and boss Eric ten Hag has told Spurs to expect more of the same tonight as his men go in search of a priceless away goal.

“For European matches it’s important that you score goals and not the first time we have done that," he said.

“We’ve scored twice and it’s important that we take that with us. We have that in our pocket.

“We want to continue the curve. It’s amazing that we’re in the semi finals of the Champions League. No-one would gave predicted that a Dutch team would reach the semi-final.

“But we want a lot more, we don’t want to rest on our laurels and we want to keep improving and moving forward.”

Ten Hag also dismissed Mauricio Pochettino’s claims that it is “not fair” that Ajax got extra time to prepare for the showdown as the Eredivisie postponed a whole round of fixtures until next month.

Tan Hag added: “I can’t really say a lot about that. There’s always differing circumstances, we play in the Arid, we have 10m from TV, Spurs I don’t know how much they get.

"Everyone has different circumstances and you have to deal with that.”
