Ajax confirm plan to sign Antony successor amid Manchester United transfer interest

Ajax have confirmed they are close to signing a successor for Manchester United target Antony.

United have signed Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez this summer and two of those players were signed directly from the Eredivisie. Eriksen also has history with the Dutch league, having played for Ajax between 2010 and 2013.

Erik ten Hag has been keen to sign players he knows and the Dutchman is interested in signing Antony, 22, who he signed for Ajax two years ago. Antony is naturally a right winger and contributed 12 goals and 10 assists in 32 appearances last season.

Ajax have now confirmed they are set to sign a successor for the player, with Ajax technical manager Gerry Hamstra commenting on the impending arrival of Francisco Conceicao from Porto.

“On the one hand, you want to have immediately deployable players if you lose Champions League-worthy players," Hamstra told Het Parool. "But at Ajax we also continue to think about the long term. How fast that happens depends on several factors

“I can imagine that that goes a little faster with a Portuguese or European than with a boy from South America. So, Conceicao is another example of bringing the successor, in this case Antony, into your selection.

“We now want to keep this group together. I assume that no one leaves this core anymore. Of course, you can never say never, I’ve learned that by now.”
