Ajax boss Erik ten Hag hits back at criticism from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has dismissed criticism of the pitch at the Johan Cruijff ArenA from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

And the Dutchman has indicated the Reds should be more concerned by the state of the surface at Anfield.

Injury-hit Liverpool got their Champions League campaign off to a winning start with a hard-earned 1-0 win in Amsterdam on Wednesday.

Afterwards, Klopp questioned the state of the field at Ajax, with the second half having been played primarily during a torrential downpour.

He told BT Sport: "I really think the pitch was really tricky. It was like deep, muddy a little bit."

The Reds boss later said to Ziggo Sport: "Surprisingly, the pitch was not good. I thought a football playing side would have a good pitch.

"A few days ago the players were flying physically but they all looked like it was really tough today."

Ten Hag, though, hit back at the Liverpool manager when told of the comments.

"Klopp saying the pitch was bad? I don’t think the pitch was bad, no," said the Ajax manager.

"Let’s hope we get a better pitch at Anfield then."

Liverpool entertain Ajax on the penultimate Group D matchday on December 1.
