Ajax appointment seen as hint towards Erik ten Hag joining Manchester United

An appointment at Ajax has been seen as a hint that Erik ten Hag will be joining Manchester United for next season.

Manchester Evening News understands that the Reds board are favouring the current Ajax boss to takeover at Old Trafford for the next campaign. PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino is still in the running but Ten Hag appears to have the edge over him.

Since this news, reports in the Netherlands appear to suggest that Ten Hag is on his way out of the Johan Cruyff Arena after Klaas Jan Huntelaar joined the club in a technical role. Mike Vermijl told De Telegraaf : "Either he (Ten Hag) was informed or they talked about it very briefly.

"But he had no real voice. And that could mean that he is still aiming for a departure after this season.

"It seems to me that you want to have a say in the technical people who come on board." Ajax are currently in the midst of a restructuring after Marc Overmars was sacked earlier this season after sending inappropriate text messages.
