AJ Pritchard recalls terrifying 'life hack' accident which saws girlfriend suffer horrific burns

AJ Pritchard has spoke out on This Morning about the terrifying accident which saw his girlfriend suffer horrific burns.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star and girlfriend Abbie Quinnen were filming a YouTube tutorial in January of an online 'life hack' which sees a bottle become a vase that involved the use of flammable liquid.

But it went "terribly wrong" and Abbie became engulfed in flames, with her hair and top catching fire resulting in incurring injuries and burns.

The 23-year-old spoke out on Sunday after news of the accident emerged in which she encouraged her own followers to be "so careful."

AJ and brother Curtis, who was upstairs in the house at the time, appeared on Tuesday's This Morning to discuss the incident with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

"Her clothes caught fire, her hair caught fire," AJ told the ITV programme. "The most upsetting thing is seeing someone you love on fire and feeling so hopeless."

The 26-year-old later said: "I sat outside the hospital all night, knowing she wasn't going to come out that night, knowing it was very serious.

"I didn't know what to do, Curtis was like, 'We kind of need to go home, she's not coming out tonight.'

"I couldn't go into hospital because of Covid, but I just waited for her. She stayed in hospital for five nights, moving from Ealing to Chelsea and Westminster Burns Unit."

He added: "I think one thing in this time, you'd be at someone's side, you'd be able to hold their hand, hug them and help them, and all we could do was be that lifeline on the phone."

Abbie has been undergoing continuous hospital treatment for the last seven weeks including three skin grafts.

"The surgeons have done an amazing job," AJ told Holly and Phil as Abbie stayed upstairs in their home during the interview.

"Moving forward with her recovery, the doctors have talked about it but they don't know.

"They call her Super Abbie because her skin's healing amazingly. Further down the line there's the option of having laser on areas to help them heal."
