AJ Pritchard quits Strictly Come Dancing after four years

AJ Pritchard has quit Strictly Come Dancing after four years on the BBC dance show.

The pro ballroom dancer announced the news of his departure on Twitter.

AJ has instead decided go concentrate on his TV presenting career alongside his younger brother Curtis, 24, who was a contestant on last summer's series of the hit dating show Love Island.

"I have some news for you all. Please see the below statement from my team also sending my love to everyone in this difficult time, please keep safe. AJ x," he wrote.

The statement reads: "After four years on Strictly Come Dancing, AJ has decided the time is right to leave the show and follow his dreams to explore opportunities in the presenting world alongside his brother Curtis.

"AJ would like to thank the team at Strictly and everyone at the BBC for giving him such a brilliant opportunity."

He added: "AJ would also like to send his love and gratitude to all who have followed him and supported his career.

"He is excited for you all to join him on the next chapter of his journey."

Fans reacted with sadness to the news.

"So sad to see you go and hope your future is successful, you will be missed," said one.

"Gutted," said another.

During his time on the BBC dance show AJ, from Cheshire, has been partnered with YouTube star Saffron Barker, The Saturdays singer Mollie King and Paralympian Lauren Steadman.

During his first series in 2016 he reached the semi-final with gymnast Claudia Fragapane.
