AJ and Curtis Pritchard jump out in Edinburgh restaurant to dance for girl with cancer

A brave Scottish teenager was given a celebrity surprise when her heroes AJ Pritchard and his brother surprised her while she was out in Edinburgh.

Lily Douglas, 13, was shocked when the duo showed up at her afternoon tea out with mum Jane at the Kimpton Hotel.

The dancing duo started performing a routine to Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger.

Aj and Curtis were even wearing T-shirts and masks with her face on them after flying in from London last month to tell the 13-year-old schoolgirl she had won the Pride of Scotland Teenager of Courage Award and give her a golden ticket for the event.

Lily from Perth was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer and has been inspiring people across Scotland with her positive attitude and bravery, reports the Daily Record.

Thrilled Lily recalled the day saying: “I was sitting with my mum when music started playing and when I looked round there were two guys with their back to me.

“They turned round and started dancing and I realised they were wearing T-shirts and masks with my picture on. I was so shocked it took me a minute to realise it was AJ and Curtis.

“After they finished their dance they gave me a golden ticket which said I had won a Pride of Scotland award. I was so surprised it took it a while for it all to sink in.”

Lily is also a gifted dancer herself and had earned hundreds of championship trophies.

She added: “I have met them both before and they remembered me. Before lockdown Arlene Phillips took my mum, my brother Leon and me to meet the Strictly celebs and dancers when they were rehearsing for the tour so I met AJ there.

“I had met Curtis at the Greatest Dancer when I was invited down to watch the show. They both follow me on Instagram which is awesome.

“They are so so lovely and made me feel really special. AJ asked me to let him know the next time I was coming to London and he and Curtis would take me to lunch.

“It was the best surprise ever and made winning a Pride of Scotland Award even more special. It was definitely one of the most exciting afternoons of my life.”

Lily was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma when she was just nine. She has since had a number of health complications and in July she collapsed, and doctors discovered the disease had spread, leaving her paralysed and unable to move her right side.

Despite depending on a wheelchair, Lily didn’t let it stop her and after becoming inspired by Army veteran and NHS fundraiser Captain Sir Tom Moore she raised more than £4000 for NHS Charities.

Doctors were amazed by her will to walk unaided and her bravery has since been recognised by celebrities including choreographer Dame Arlene Phillips and singer Lewis Capaldi.

On July 7, Lily received her Teenager of Courage Award from Arlene at our glittering ceremony at Hopetoun House in South Queensferry.

Choreographer and former Strictly judge Arlene, 78, said: “Lily has stolen a little bit of my heart. I am in awe of her courage, fearlessness, fighting spirit and steeliness.

“The light just shines out of her. The Pride of Scotland trophy is a silver angel and to me Lily is a living angel. She is a miracle. She is a mesmerising dancer and I believe in my heart of hearts she will dance again and I will be there to see it.”

Lily was also one of 11 unsung heroes honoured at our People’s Oscars, which was hosted by Nicky Campbell and Kirsty Gallacher and included performances by Nathan Evans and the Fratellis.

The event will be broadcast on STV next Tuesday, July 27.
