A security alert is underway after a suspicious object was found in the front garden of a house in West Belfast.
The object was discovered in Aitnamona Crescent on Sunday morning.
Whiterock Leisure Centre is open for residents who have been evacuated.
A PSNI spokesman said: "Police are currently at the scene of a security alert in the Aitnamona Crescent area of west Belfast following the discovery of a suspicious object in the front garden of a house in the area.
"Aitnamona Crescent has been closed to traffic and a number of homes in the area evacuated.
"Whiterock Leisure Centre has been made available for evacuated residents.
"There are no further details at this time."
Sinn Fein Councillor Ronan McLaughlin said: "Currently on scene in Aitnamona Crescent where a suspected pipe bomb went off last night.
"A Sunday in which kids should be playing out in the street are met with police cordons.
"Whiterock leisure centre has been opened for those residents who has had to leave there homes. Shameful this still goes on in 2019."
