Flights from Birmingham international airport could be disrupted this Christmas after fire and security workers voted two to one in favour of strike action to call for the reinstatement of two sacked colleagues.
The airport said it was "extremely disappointed" by the strike threat, but that it would be forced to close the runway on safety grounds if Amicus members of its fire crews walked out.
A spokesman said the men, who are union representatives, were sacked for leaving their posts without permission. Amicus said they had been given permission by their managers to clear out a union office.
