Airport worker filmed sleeping at wheel of baggage truck on busy runway

An airport worker was caught on camera dozing off behind the wheels of a vehicle on the runway.

Footage from a plane passenger captures the man having a nap at the Toronto Pearson International Airport while his colleague is working next to him.

The video clip, which was filmed on Tuesday, shows the man napping as a number of planes go past behind him on the Tarmac.

It appeared that the worker had not followed the safety management system (SMS), a global safety standard to promote the importance of safety in different working envrinoments.

The Civil Aviation Authority, which runs the SMS, stated: "Vigilance is necessary for all those working air-side to be aware of the potential hazards associated with the movement of ground vehicles and ground service equipment.

"All parties operating on the aerodrome should co-ordinate with each other in relation to the parking, storage and movement of vehicles and ground service equipment."

The worker may have breached safety regulations as he was filmed sleeping during work.

It's not sure whether the worker has received any warning after the incident.
