Airport line to link upcoming Noida airport to Delhi’s IGI

NEW DELHI: The upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA) will be linked with IGI Airport via Shivaji Stadium by extending the Airport Express Line of Delhi Metro. UP government has asked Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to do a feasibility study regarding this.

Arun Vir Singh, CEO of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and NIA Ltd, told TOI, “It’s up to them to suggest whether the line should be extended beyond Botanical Garden or there will be a different line from Shivaji Stadium to Jewar. Ideally, Airport Express Line (linking the two airports) should have few stops for fast connectivity.”

DMRC recently signed an MoU with YEIDA to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the Greater Noida-NIA Metro corridor and to also do a feasibility study for extending Airport Express Line to Greater Noida for connecting Terminal 3 of IGI Airport with it. “While the Greater Noida-NIA section will be about 36km long, the Greater Noida-Terminal-3 section will be 38km long,” said a source.

“Both these sections are being planned as high-speed corridors on the lines of the Airport Express Line that connects Shivaji Terminal with T3. These two corridors will originate from Greater Noida Knowledge Park 2 station, which will act as a connecting link between the two sections,” added the source.

The source said, “The feasibility study for the Greater Noida-NIA corridor has been completed and the DPR is being made. For the other section connecting Greater Noida and IGI Airport, the feasibility study will be done as per the MoU.”
