Airport: 'Last time we shut like this was 1984'

Cardiff Airport was closed for another day today, despite a test flight taking off from London Heathrow to the city.

Due to ash from a volcano eruption in Iceland all UK airspace has been closed since last Thursday leaving thousands stuck in Britain and abroad.

National air traffic service have announced Scottish airports will open with some lines running from 7am tomorrow.

Cardiff Airport this afternoon could not confirm when flights to the city would open up again, but said restrictions are currently in place until 1pm tomorrow.

A jumbo jet flight from London Heathrow to Cardiff Airport took place on Sunday and British Airways today said this provided "fresh evidence that the current blanket restrictions on airspace are unnecessary".
