Another day of disrupted travel plans is unfolding as airlines announce more cancellations of flights leaving from UK airports.
British Airways’ number of cancellations rose by 20 to 74 today, while easyJet’s shrank by six to 52.
Both airlines have blamed a shortage of staff due to Covid-related absences.
Spanish holidays are also in jeopardy after Spanish authorities yesterday appeared to reopen to unvaccinated travellers with immediate effect, only to make a U-turn on the rule last night.
On Wednesday morning the tourist board said unjabbed British visitors would be able to enter the country with a negative pre-departure test, effective immediately.
Later that evening they issued a correction, confirming that the rule change would not go ahead this wee.
People aged 18 and over must still be fully vaccinated or prove they have recovered from Covid-19 in the past six months in order to enter Spain for non-essential reasons. Children 12-17 can provide a negative test result to enter.
Pedro Medina, deputy director of the Spanish tourist office in the UK said: “We apologise unreservedly for the miscommunication earlier today which was due to a misunderstanding of the new entry requirements.”
