Airline passenger left 'humiliated' after being stopped from boarding plane over low-cut top

A passenger has spoken of being left “completely humiliated” by airline staff who stopped her boarding a plane because of her outfit.

United Airlines platinum member Andrea Worldwide was stopped by a male employee while boarding a United Airlines flight from Denver, Colorado, to Newark, New York.

Andrea said she had dressed for comfort ready for the four-hour first-class flight - the first leg of her journey to see her boyfriend in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

But she claims she was asked her to step aside from the boarding line with no explanation by staff, reports Manchester Evening News.

She said she originally thought a ripped ticket was the issue, but she was eventually told she was denied due to her top, which was low cut and part of her bralette underneath was visible.

But photos show Andrea had dressed in layers and was also wearing a long cardigan and a scarf over the top.

She said: “I’m completely humiliated, embarrassed, confused. I feel like all eyes are on me.”

Andrea was eventually allowed to board, with staff offering her a travel voucher by way of recompense, but she declined the offer.

"Two hundred dollars doesn’t even compare to the humiliation that I faced.

"If another female has to face this, I’d rather get the word out and maybe they’ll choose a different airline," she continued.

In her Facebook post describing the experience, she said: "I had to endure being harassed by someone who decided my attire was too much of a distraction for him to do his job.

"I was singled out for no reason whatsoever other than to be embarrassed and humiliated for how I look.

United Airlines is now in contact with Andrea to deal with her complaint, reports CBS4.

A spokesman said: “At United, our goal is for our customers to feel welcome and have a comfortable journey.

"We are reaching out to our customer to better understand what happened.”

The airline has a dress code policy for employees or those travelling as friends and family of staff members, though regular passengers have few restrictions.
