Airline introduces new booking system for passengers who don’t want to sit next to kids

One airline has introduced a new booking system that will be popular among those who don’t like sitting next to screaming children on flights.

When flying with most airlines, it is pretty much luck of the draw where you get seated on a plane, as those who have had to deal with kicking toddlers behind them will know.

Japan Air’s new system takes out some of the guesswork however – and will no doubt be the envy of frequent flyers here in Scotland.

As reported by the Mirror, when booking a flight with the airline it now displays an aerial seating plan, and seats taken up by children under the age of 12 are specially marked with an icon.

This means those who want to avoid the noise and drama often associated with sitting next to young kids can pick a seat as far away as possible.

The Japan Air website states: "Passengers travelling with children between eight days and two years old who select their seats on the Japan Airlines website will have a child icon displayed on their seats on the seat selection screen.

"This lets other passengers know a child may be sitting there."

However, it does note that the child icon won't apply for any seats booked through third-party websites, which means there's always going to be a risk of being stuck next to a crier.
