Airdrieonians star McKay extends stay

Airdrieonians midfielder Paul McKay has extended his stay at the Penny Cars stadium after signing a new deal.

The 23-year-old, who scored four goals in 31 appearances for the Diamonds last season, has put pen to paper on a one-year extension.

McKay told airdriefc.com: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club so far, they’re a good group of lads.

“It’s a great club with a lot of great people around the place - Stuart Millar, the gaffer and physio John McMenemy to name just three.

“I’m delighted to be staying for another season, and I’m looking forward to working with everyone again.”

Director of Football Stuart Millar added: “We’re delighted to extend Paul’s contract as he came up from England last summer having never played in Scottish football and soon became a first-team regular.

“Paul made a huge contribution to our season, finishing up as our top-scoring midfielder and weighing in with a number of assists.

“Not only are we keeping an important player at the club, but it gives us more continuity after having made a lot of changes last summer.”

McKay's commitment to the club comes just under a fortnight after Airdrie made goalkeeper Max Currie their first signing of the summer.
