Airdrieonians set to appoint former Stranraer supremo as director of football

Veteran Diamonds will drag us away from the drop zone says Airdrieonians captain Sean Crighton look set to appoint Stuart Millar as director of football.

Ex-Diamond Millar resigned his DoF post at Stranraer earlier this month having also been an assistant manager and head of player recruitment during various spells at the Blues.

A Stranraer spokesperson stated that the 53-year-old had been “an integral part of player recruitment over the past two seasons”.

When he walked away from the post the former Clyde boss revealed he intended to remain in football in some capacity but after roles across the country wanted a new job on the Central Belt.

Millar holds a close connection to Airdrie, having signed for the club back in 1981 as a teenager. As a 17-year-old, he notably scored on his Diamonds’ debut.

A source within the Penny Cars Stadium told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser: “It’s something that’s on the cards.

“There isn’t a definite date on when he would come in but there has been talks between the club and Stuart.”

Manager Ian Murray took over at the helm at New Broomfield last October. He is assisted by club favourites Marc Fitzpatrick and Bryan Prunty.
