Airdrieonians dealt major striker injury blow

Airdrie have been dealt a major blow with news that striker Ally Roy is out for a 'number of weeks' with an injury sustained in their Betfred Cup opener against Alloa.

A statement issued by the North Lanarkshire club confirmed that Roy has undergone an operation after suffering a broken or dislocated wrist during the 2-0 defeat at home to Alloa on Wednesday.

Roy had to be taken off 41 minutes into the game at the Penny Cars Stadium, providing a major worry for boss Ian Murray.

Director of Football Stuart Millar told the club's website: "We all wish Ally a speedy recovery. He had been showing great form in pre-season and continued this on Wednesday evening when he looked a real goal threat.

“We look forward to welcoming Ally back to the group when his rehabilitation is complete.”
