Airdrieonians boss Ian Murray rules out Kris Doolan swoop but is set to snap up striker signings

Airdrieonians boss Ian Murray has ruled the Diamonds out of the race to sign Kris Doolan.

Murray has revealed that the former Partick Thistle striker is looking to stay at a higher level, despite the best efforts of the Penny Cars Stadium outfit to take him to League One as part of their new full-time 'hybrid' model.

The Firhill Hall of Famer bagged hit 120 goals for the Jags before his release last summer.

"Kris is a fantastic player, but at this point he possibly isn't looking to come to League One," Murray told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser.

"That's no disrespect to the league, it's just that I understand he has options to play at a higher level. He has played at a higher level for most of his career so it's possibly not the right time for him to come to League One.

"He's a good player, and a player that we would have loved to have. It certainly was one we were looking at, and it wasn't for the want of trying that we didn't get him."

Despite missing out on Doolan, Murray expects to add to his attack for next season soon.

The former Dumbarton and St Mirren gaffer expects the club to announced new signings today.

"We're hopeful that we can add two or three today. We know the areas we are short in and these players will certainly provide a bit more in that area.

"There is a player I have worked with before and a player I have always wanted to work with. There is a player who has been at a higher level and maybe things just haven't worked out for him.

"If these players can get scoring at our level they will be worth their weight in gold."
