Airdrie goal hero Salim Kouider-Aissa says he’s never seen a game like their clash with Dumbarton – describing the end to the game as “madness”.
Sons had three players sent off in the second half, yet still managed to level up at 2-2 in the fourth minute of stoppage time after Dylan Easton had put Airdrie 2-1 up in the 90th minute.
Kouider-Aissa had the final say, however, with a 96th minute header to win the game and send Airdrie joint top of League One.
And he said: “It was not a bad time to get it. To challenge at the right end of the table you have to fight until the last minute, and that’s what we did.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game like that. It was madness.
“When Dumbarton scored I still felt as if we’d get one more chance.
“It was up to me to take it, and I’m delighted I could.”
Kouider-Aissa came on as an 80th minute substitute for Scott McGill with the game level at 1-1, but he always believed he would play a telling part in the proceedings.
The 25-year-old added: “I felt confident coming on that I’d score.
“I know if I get chances in the box that I’ll take a few of them.”
It turned out to be a huge result for the Diamonds, as they went joint-top of the table on Saturday night and stayed there after leaders Queen’s Park suffered a shock defeat to Alloa in another bonkers result.
The Wasps ran out 4-3 winners with a 92nd minute goal and three of the seven goals came in the final six minutes of the game.
Airdrie now sit third on goal difference.
