Airdrie v Falkirk: Diamonds fancy chances for first win of season, says Adam Frizzell

Airdrie ace Adam Frizzell fancies the Diamonds to dazzle Falkirk this afternoon and pick up their first win of the League One campaign.

It's been an underwhelming start for the Monklands men this season, as a 3-0 defeat at home to Montrose on the opening day was followed by the side surrendering a 2-0 lead with 10 men late on to draw with his old side Dumbarton last week.

But today provides Airdrie with an opportunity to get off the mark and kick-start their promotion bid gainst a Falkirk side they haven't lost to in the last two seasons.

There have been big changes over the summer with new boss Paul Sheerin coming in to replace sacked duo David McCracken and Lee Miller, but Frizzell believes in the squad that Airdrie have assembled this term.

He told the club's website: “I’ve not seen much of them but obviously we know what we’ll get - they’ve got a big budget and it’ll be a good game.

"They like to play football as well, so we’ll see… we certainly fancy ourselves.

“When I went there with Dumbarton we were sitting in and soaking the pressure up, and that’s not what we want to do on Saturday - we want to get on the ball and be putting them under pressure."

The ex-Kilmarnock star added: "Certainly with the squad we’ve got we’re very, very capable.

“We showed shades of that on Saturday and if we can put performances like that together consistently we’re definitely going to be up there.”

The 23-year-old made his Diamonds debut in last week's draw at Dumbarton and was pleased with his display, despite the result.

He added: "I thought I was decent - I probably tired towards the end of the game, especially when we were down to ten. I thought we were brilliant for the most part of the game, we showed what we can do which is the main thing.

“I know we dropped two points, that’s the way we’re viewing it because we were in the ascendency, but as I say we showed what we can do and if we play like that all season I’m sure we’ll be absolutely fine.”
