Airdrie v Cove Rangers: Diamonds boss hails consistency factor ahead of 'big' League One clash

Airdrie manager Ian Murray believes the Diamonds' current run of form is the most consistent he's had as boss ahead of a huge match with Cove Rangers.

Murray's men are top of League One on 26 points, having won eight of their 14 league matches this season.

They face Cove Rangers at home today, who are second in the league and one point behind.

Five of the last six games have been victories for Airdrie and Murray says that's what is needed in League One to go on a title run. And while not season-defining, it makes games against promotion rivals like Cove crucial.

"I don't think I've had as consistent a run like this," said the 40-year-old ahead of the match. "It depends how long you take the runs for. If you stretch it over 10 games, probably not.

"It shows how steady we have been to get ourselves close to the top. The top two teams have won eight and seven games. That's a high ratio.

"It's not normally that high, but it comes from the league being so competitive. Getting three points is so huge and Cove have been picking up wins too.

"It's a big one. I don't think anything will be decided whether it's a win, loss or draw for either side. But there's no doubt it's a big game in terms of creating a gap for ourselves at the top."

Alloa are the only side to have beat Airdrie since Cove Rangers recorded a 1-0 win over the Diamonds in September. Murray is pleased with his side's form overall.

"It's pretty much about winning every week," added the Airdrie boss. "This league is so unforgiving at times. The top six are starting to create a wee gap now to the other four.

"We look at the Alloa game as a blip in our run but that's all it is.

"Alloa are a good side and were a Championship team last season. They were fancied well above ourselves to be fighting for the title.

"So it's a hard place to go. But it's a sign of the levels we've got that we've come away from there disappointed with ourselves. Outside of that, we've had two defeats in 11 league games. It's a solid base."
