Airdrie UFC star Paul 'Bearjew' Craig hunts for more London Octagon glory

Airdrie UFC star Paul Craig is hoping for a repeat of his London glory as he gears up for Fight Night.

The Scottish Hit Squad light-heavyweight enjoyed a last-gasp submission win over Magomed Ankalaev with just a second left on the clock in 2018.

The 32-year-old will return to the capital on March 21 to face Ryan Spann and is aiming to enjoy another positive result.

He fondly remembers his last time out in the Octagon in front of the British crowd – with fellow fighter Chris Bungard the first to celebrate with him.

“The memories of London have always been positive,” he told Lanarkshire Live Sport.

“We went down there last year with Chris and he won, and I had my own win when I last went down there to fight.

“That was the most electrifying thing I’ve ever experienced, and then Chris jumping the cage to celebrate that last second victory was priceless.

“Every time I watch that video I get a wee bit excited – and I see the fear in my face because I think I’m getting jumped!”

He expected American Spann to give him a tough test.

“He’s a tall opponent and fights out of Fortitude MMA. He is just like every guy who fights out of there – big, powerful and athletic.

“In the last year we have shown how I’ve developed as a fighter. Not only as an athlete, but as a fighter and we will show more of what was in our previous fight.

“When we go down to London we will be looking for another victory – all we look for is wins.”
