A mobile Covid-19 testing unit is to be set up in Airdrie, to “support the rapid identification of cases”.
It will be located in the car park of Airdrie leisure centre from tomorrow, February 10, and will be open from 9.30am to 5.30pm, seven days a week.
People with coronavirus symptoms can attend for local testing – slots must be booked in advance at www.nhsinform.scot/test-and-protect or by calling 0800 028 2816.
Staff will provide advice about the process and results; health officials say the swab test takes “less than a minute [and] is relatively pain-free”, with results being received in 24 to 48 hours.
Dr Alison Smith-Palmer, a consultant in public health with NHS Lanarkshire, said: “This mobile testing facility will support the rapid identification of cases.
“Anyone from Airdrie or the surrounding areas with symptoms can book to get a test.”

Those testing positive for Covid-19 will be contacted by NHS Scotland contact tracers, who will give information on how long to self-isolate, along with other household members,
Close contacts will also be identified and asked to stay at home for 10 days to prevent unknowing further transmission, and advised to also book a test if they develop coronavirus symptoms – a new continuous cough, fever, or loss or change to the senses of smell or taste.
Health officials stress the importance of continuing to follow the national FACTS guidance – wearing a Face covering; Avoiding crowded places; Cleaning hands and surfaces regularly; maintaining Two-metre distancing from others; and Self-isolating and booking a test if displaying symptoms.
