Airdrie thug booted girlfriend in the face during disgraceful attack

An Airdrie yob booted his girlfriend on the head during a shocking attack.

Craig McGarr, 27, assaulted his long-term partner at a property in Chapelhall in August.

The woman was left shaken, stunned and bleeding by Glentore Quadrant resident McGarr’s violent actions.

His solicitor told Airdrie Sheriff Court last week: “They had been in a relationship for five years.

“At 12am he was heavily intoxicated and the complainer asked him to leave the locus.

“Kids were present at the time. He became angry and punched her eye, causing her to fall.

“He then kicked her in the face and it cut her lip. She contacted police and he was cautioned and charged.”

Sheriff Frank Pieri noted: “This is very serious for a first offender. It’s of a despicable nature.”

McGarr’s solicitor continued: “He acknowledges that.

“He pled guilty at an early stage. They are working on issues in their relationship and he is staying at his parents’ while they do so.”

Sheriff Pieri added: “There is a lack of previous offending.

“This was a vicious and cowardly attack. I’m just prepared to impose an alternative consisting of supervision of one year.

“You’ll also carry out 125 hours of unpaid work.”
