Airdrie Supporters Trust tell members League One club to hold a shares rights issue

The Airdrieonians Supporters’ Trust have claimed there is to be a shares rights issue at the Diamonds – which the group have decided not to participate in.

Chairman Willie Marshall told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser that the Trust had received the 10,000 shares it had been trying to secure from the club for some time.

He also said that he was informed that the club is planning a shares rights issue, which offers current shareholders the chance to purchase additional shares.

To maintain its current shareholding percentage, Mr Marshall says it would cost the Trust more than £33,000.

This led to a consultation with the membership last Wednesday. A vote by the 50 members present led to the decision not to take part in any future rights issue.

Mr Marshall said the Trust currently holds 30,000 shares and that any rights issue would “dilute” their shareholding.

He said: “We only wanted the shares we were due and now we have them.”

Marshall also noted that he would be stepping down from his role as chairman to work with the newly-formed ‘Diamonds in the Community’ charity.

This group will take on all charity and community aspects of the Supporters Trust.

He added: “We still see a role for the Supporters Trust. Now it will focus on the club and fan matters. There will be a change of focus to supporting the supporter. We are still shareholders and I think we still have a big role to play.”

Airdrieonians declined to comment.
