Airdrie supermarket staff donate Easter treats to key workers and community

Generous staff at Morrisons in Airdrie are busy with their key role in keeping residents supplied with food during lockdown – but still took time to share their Easter treats with others working hard to look after the community.

The 230 colleagues were due to receive an Easter egg from the company; but all of the big-hearted staff members chose to donate their chocolate treats to Monklands organisations supporting key workers.

Workers were asked which good causes they would like to benefit from their generosity, and chose to donate the hundreds of Easter eggs to Monklands Hospital, St Andrew’s Hospice, the keyworker children’s hub running at Hilltop Primary in Petersburn, the town’s Salvation Army foodbank, and to NHS staff shopping at the Gartlea Road supermarket.

St Andrew's Hospice also received Easter eggs donated by workers at Morrisons in Airdrie (Contributed/Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser)

A spokesperson for Morrisons in Airdrie told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser: “All of these people have touched the hearts and minds of all our staff, both in recent years and at this tough and emotional time.

“And as the Queen mentioned in her speech [last weekend], we ‘hope in the years to come everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge.

“We’re also committed to supporting our local foodbank with our company’s investment in food donations.”
