Airdrie striker Calum Gallagher says there’s a huge determination to pull themselves back up the League One table after falling to a 3-1 defeat against FC Edinburgh on Saturday.
Lewis Jamieson levelled Danny Handling’s 26th-minute opener two minutes after the interval, but Ouzy See and Emmanuel Johnson added second-half strikes to seal the win and cement their place in second, a point behind leaders Dunfermline.
Callum Smith pressured defender Jack Brydon into a slack headed passback, which resulted in Jamieson lifting the ball over keeper Robbie Mutch and into the net for Airdrie’s goal.
But Gallagher said it was a frustrating afternoon, as not a lot went in Airdrie’s favour on their way to falling down to eighth in League One.
He said: “It was difficult. For a long spell in the first half we did really well.
“We’ve been speaking about how we started the season, playing a bit more to the strengths of the boys that we’ve got, being confident on the ball.
“We really did that and were getting quite a lot of success from it in the first half, created a few opportunities, and had several shots in and around the box. It just wasn’t really our day. I think if we were a bit more fortunate it’s maybe a different story.
“Certainly there were positives to take from the game. I think with the results in the last wee while, we’ve struggled to take positives from it, so I think although it’s disappointing, there are certain things to look at and build on for the next game.”
Gallagher says climbing the league is obviously Airdrie’s priority as they seek to get back to the form they showed in early season.
They are 10 points off leaders Pars and he knows there’s some work to do.
The 28-year-old said: “Eighth is not a place, certainly in my tenure here, that we’re used to being.
“We’ve always been at the top end, fighting for the title, so it’s a case of getting there again.
“It’s difficult, in terms of having high expectations, and it’s difficult to put our finger on the reasons behind it, but we’re doing everything we can, and I think that’s where we expect to be in the next couple of months’ time.
“You always want to give the fans something to look forward to, and ultimately it’s an entertainment business as well.
“We’ve been fortunate that in the last year and a half we’ve been able to put on a good style of football and see the fans’ size increase in the last year.
“It’s about rewarding that, getting back to what we know, and hopefully putting in a good performance for them.”
