Airdrie songbird sings for NHS heroes and raises funds for cancer charity

A YOUNG Airdrie songstress has lifted the spirits of her community by performing in honour of the NHS and key workers.
Kara Beggs, from Glenmavis, sang a medley of songs and performed on her guitar after the penultimate ‘Clap for Carers’ event, in a bid to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Trust.
10-year-old Kara, a New Monkland Primary pupil, entertained neighbours outside her home with renditions of Over the Rainbow, Lady Gaga’s hit Shallow, 4 Non-Blondes classic What’s Going On, and Hallelujah.
And after being on song, the talented Monklands schoolgirl was rewarded with donations on the night and raised £280 for the cancer charity, thanks to neighbours and well-wishers.
Songbird Kara was supported by proud parents Russell and Fiona and big brother Josh, who is a talented drummer in his own right.
Russell told the Advertiser: “A friend of the family raises funds for Macmillan, so Kara decided she wanted to support the charity.
“She is really proud and happy that people have donated for such a good cause.”

And Kara was overwhelmed when her New Monkland Primary teachers Miss Torley and head teacher Mrs Reid came along to lend their support.
Russell explained: “There were a few tears that night. Kara is struggling just now.
“It’s really taking its toll on her not being able to see her friends and grandparents.”
And despite desperately missing her family and friends, Kara was determined that the show must go on.
The Glenmavis youngster realised her dream last year when she secured her place in the second round of auditions of The Voice Kids.
And before lockdown Kara regularly entertained the crowds on stage at Glasgow music venues King Tuts Wah Wah Hut and the Amethyst's open mic nights.
Russell added: It’s amazing that she has got the courage to go up and do that. Once she’s up there she feels fantastic, just seeing people’s reactions.”
