Airdrie solicitor banned from practising for "reprehensible" behaviour

A solicitor who ran an Airdrie firm before closing his business and failing to refund a client has been banned from practising for eight years.

Daniel McGinn was found guilty of professional misconduct at a hearing in Edinburgh.

The Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal said his behaviour was “reprehensible”.

McGinn, 51, ran The Clyde Law Group in Airdrie, and, in June 2016, agreed to represent a client in a divorce action.

The tribunal heard the man paid him £500 but McGinn failed to contact his client’s wife or respond to her solicitor’s letters.

When the man complained about the lack of progress in the case, McGinn told him he had started a new job and would refund him.

The man made a formal complaint and the money was paid by the Law Society of Scotland.

McGinn is believed to have moved abroad.
