Airdrie sign goalkeeper Max Currie

Airdrie have agreed terms with goalkeeper Max Currie after he left Stranraer.

Former Rangers and Motherwell shot-stopper Currie, 23, is highly regarded and had been senior with the Stair Park side since 2016.

Diamonds director of football Stuart Millar is pleased with the signing of a player he knows from his own time at Stranraer.

He said: “We’re thrilled to be able to welcome Max to the club, he’s a player who has always impressed the manager and I know first-hand the quality he has.

“We had stiff competition for his signature, so we’re delighted that he’s decided to join Airdrie.

“It’s unusual for a goalkeeper to have played so many games at such a young age, so credit must go to goalkeeping coach Eric Phillips and manager Stevie Farrell at Stranraer for their role in Max’s development.

“The goalkeeping position is one where we already have quality, so we’re delighted to be able to boost that with the addition of Max.”

Max said: “I’m delighted to be joining Airdrie, I’m really looking forward to working with the manager, the coaching staff and my new team-mates.

“Everyone is looking forward to football getting back up-and-running, and I’m hopeful it will be a successful season for the club.”

Airdrie goalkeeping coach Jim Low commented: “Max is a great young keeper - I’m sure fans will remember some top performances against Airdrie, including an outstanding last-minute save against us last season.

“He’s a player with a big future in the game, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
