Airdrie schoolboy, seven, rushed to hospital after being hit by a car

A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Airdrie schoolboy was rushed to hospital with "serious injuries" last night after he was hit by a car.

Police were called to the scene of the accident in Gartleahill at about 5.30pm.

The youngster was on foot near the road's junction with Target Road when he was struck by a grey Ford Kuga.

He was taken to Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children by ambulance for treatment to serious injuries.

Police closed off the residential road for "six hours" as they investigated the scene.

The occupants of the car did not suffer any injuries.

Sergeant Gemma Blackadder, of the Road Policing Unit in Motherwell, said: "Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances which led to this incident.

"I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward if you haven't already spoken to an officer.

"In particular, we would be keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam or private CCTV footage which could help our enquiries.

"If you have any information then please call 101, quoting incident 2412 of October 13."
