Airdrie school becomes first in North Lanarkshire to raise £100k for Hospice

An Airdrie school has become the first in North Lanarkshire to raise more than £100,000 for St Andrew’s Hospice.

Caldervale High reached its peak performance by taking part in two hill climbs and a 6K run.

A total of 147 first-year pupils scaled all 2333 feet of Lanarkshire landmark Tinto Hill; although an annual school event, for many involved it was their first time hill-walking.

The Tinto climb raised over £4400 for the hospice, with a further £7900 coming from 48 senior students and staff holding a Ben Nevis challenge.

The brave bunch bested cold and damp conditions to tackle Britain’s highest mountain.

Between the two hill climbs and the school’s 6K run, held last year, the Caldervale community has raised more than £13,000 for the hospice, which is the largest sum raised in an academic year.

A school spokesperson said: “We are very proud to be the first school in North Lanarkshire to raise over £100,000 for the hospice.”
