Airdrie have signed a kit deal with ‘iconic’ sportsear brand Umbro that director of football Stuart Millar says was too good to turn down.
The New Broomfield club have departed from Joma and signed the deal with Umbro via Football Nation.
Millar told Lanarkshire Live Sport the financially lucrative contract will provide prestige for the club and a welcome boost for fans.
He said: “We feel as though the deal that Umbro was offering us was one that we could not turn down.
"It’s very iconic, the Umbro brand, and they don’t normally do clubs at our level, so I’m absolutely thrilled that we’ve got a partnership there to take us into next season.
“It is good financially, but our deal last year with Joma was also very good.
"I assume we will sell more kits, because it’s Umbro, and I think everybody’s missing their football fix, so I think the kits that have been manufactured will be a best-seller, both home and away.
“It’s great for the club and for the fans. We get inundated with companies who would like to sponsor us, which is testimony to how highly regarded Airdrie still are, but this year I decided to go for Umbro, because of the deal, because of the iconic company that they are. Everything just fitted the bill, and it ticked all the boxes."
Millar wouldn't divulge any more details or a release date.
He added: “Every year we’ve got for or five companies who are keen to supply you with kit. Some offer you better deals than others, some manufacturers are better known that others. Football Nation have Adidas, Umbro, Mitre, Kapa, all these companies, and they’re the top company in the country for Joma, but once we knew Umbro were interested in us, we were most certainly interested in them, so I’m delighted.”
