Airdrie's team spirit can help us see off Morton and grab our Championship chance, says Craig Thomson

Craig Thomson says Airdrie's team spirit can see them overturn a first-leg deficit and beat Morton to grab their Championship step-up chance this evening.

The Diamonds head to Greenock this evening 1-0 down from the first leg at New Broomfield on Tuesday, and midfielder Thomson says they have to be confident of overturning that.

Thomson admits Robbie Muirhead's stoppage-time header was a blow to Airdrie, but says they can get over it and beat higher-league opposition to seal their promotion chance.

He told Airdrie's website: "I felt Tuesday was quite an even game with not a lot of clear-cut chances for either side.

"Obviously losing the late goal was a bit of a blow, but we have 90 minutes to turn the tie around, and we have to go there with confidence that we can win the game.

"I think we need to stay relaxed and keep doing what we've been doing on the run we've been on in the last few months.

"We've got a great team spirit and we have to keep that up, going into Friday's game.

"I think if we do that and show some more quality in the final third, we are more than capable of turning this tie around."

Thomson was delighted to see fans in the stands at New Broomfield on Tuesday evening and hopes to give them something to shout about this evening.

"It was great to see the fans back in," he said. "It was quite a strange feeling hearing them singing and cheering us on after playing in empty stadiums all season.

"It was a bit disappointing we couldn't give them something to cheer about during the game, but hopefully the Diamonds will all be celebrating, come Friday night."

Airdrie fans can tune in to tonight's action live on BBC Alba from 7.35pm this evening.
