Airdrie were 'priced out' of permanent move for striker Andy Ryan

Airdrie said they were priced out of a move for Andy Ryan, with the striker today agreeing a deal with Stirling Albion.

Director of football Stuart Millar says the striker would like to have stayed at New Broomfield following his release by Dunfermline, but they couldn’t match Stirling's offer for the 25-year-old.

Millar said: “He was a Dunfermline player and we would have hoped to have tried to sort out a deal, but once we knew the deal he was getting from elsewhere we couldn’t pursue it.

“Andy thoroughly enjoyed his time at the club. He was terrific around the place and I think Airdrie was good for him. We made him enjoy his football and he would love to have re-signed for Airdrie for next season, but financially we couldn’t accommodate him.”

Millar is turning his thoughts to rebuilding or next season, but with uncertainty over when or if League 1 and 2 will resume for next season, he says there isn’t much he can do.

“Just now I think we only have 10 or 11 players,” he said, “so we need to have a squad that’s competitive, but that’s very difficult.

“We don’t know when we’re starting back or how many games we will play – how big a squad you need, depends on how many games you’re playing.

“We need positions all over; we’re probably fine for goalkeepers, but we just need to build up a squad and need a number of players. That will happen, but in due course.”
