Airdrie man turned up at home of gran, 97, and demanded money from family

An Airdrie man will be tagged following a short spell in jail.

Peter Anderson, of Whinhall Road, caused fear and alarm with his actions at Monklands Hospital in April.

He kicked a police constable on the head and then continued his violent behaviour en route to Coatbridge police office.

In August, the 43-year-old behaved poorly again after being arrested for turning up at the home of his 97-year-old grandmother and demanding money in a threatening manner.

Anderson’s defence solicitor said: “He acknowledges these are serious matters and his language is unacceptable.

“He’s been remanded since October 7 on this and it’s not a period he’s enjoyed, although it was necessary.

“He will comply with any disposal.

“He’s looking forward to getting on with his treatment order after his time in custody.”

Sheriff Frank Pieri told Anderson: “I’ll impose a sentence of 25 days in prison backdated to when you were remanded.

“After that, there will be a restriction of liberty order on you for five months.

“You must remain in your home between the hours of 7pm to 7am.”
