Airdrie man resisted arrest and behaved in threatening manner

AN Airdrie man who resisted arrest from three police officers and behaved in a threatening manner has been fined £400.

John Paul Coyle, 28, of Ballochney Street, committed the offences on September 1 last year.

Prosecutor Louise Beattie told Airdrie Sheriff Court earlier this month how Coyle, at home and during a journey in a police car to Coatbridge police station, behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm.

He acted in an aggressive manner by repeatedly shouting and swearing, making offensive remarks and threats of violence.

Coyle also repeatedly struck a van and then resisted arrest from three police officers, before struggling violently and tensing his arms in an attempt to break free.

Sheriff Derek O’Carroll ordered Coyle to pay the fine at £50 per week.
