Airdrie man found not guilty of conning couple out of £2k for new kitchen

A court case involving an Airdrie man who allegedly conned a couple out of £2000 has been thrown out by a sheriff.

David Cane, of Howletnest Road, changed his initial plea of guilt to defrauding the pair of the four-figure sum as a deposit for a new kitchen, to not guilty.

It was alleged the 48-year-old took the cash after pretending to be an employee of a kitchen fitting firm but having no intention of carrying out any work.

After the conclusion of evidence for the prosecution at Airdrie Sheriff Court, Mr Cane, who represented himself, made the submission there was “no case to answer”.

Sheriff Sara Matheson sustained the motion and acquitted the accused on the charge.
