Airdrie karate club's first host show is a cracking success

Airdrie-based Lanarkshire Karate Academy are celebrating after hosting their own competition for the very first-time last month.

The club held their ‘Champions Karate Cup’ at Ravenscraig Regional Sport Facility and over 200 competitors participated in kata, kumite and kickmaster events in front of a strong crowd.

Youngsters had a ball as they showed off their skills and picked up medals for their efforts.

Proud sensei Chantelle Allan who helped organise the event with David Campbell of United Karate Association Glasgow, said: “Our very first time running a competition, couldn’t have gone any better.

“It was unbelievable and congratulations to go to all the competitors. The kata, kumite and kickmaster categories were filled with so much enthusiasm.

“I can’t thank all of our staff enough for the job you all did.

“It was even better to have the management team of the venue compliment us and tell us it was the ‘best run sporting event the venue has held this year’.

“We are proud as months of hard work and lots of sleepless nights has gone into making it happen. Everyone was amazing with the rules and Covid policies in place, and many compliments were made about the children’s behaviour as well.

“It was so nice to have a competition in Scotland.

"Hopefully there will be many more to follow.”
