Airdrie junior side Gartcairn on the brink of sealing promotion ahead of Royal Albert clash

Gartcairn boss Jamie McKenzie is looking forward to having their fate in their own hands as the Airdrie juniors hope to seal promotion this weekend.

After a convincing 5-1 win over Maryhill on Saturday, Cairn will seal their place in the top West Region League One top three with a win over Royal Albert this weekend.

McKenzie told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser : “Any other time we have played and had a chance to go up we have had to rely on other results.

Consortium say the will "rescue" Albion Rovers if the League Two strugglers are relegated

“Now it’s totally in our hands. It’s a positive and hopefully we can get our first big goal of the season out of the way.”

Entry for this match will be by donation to the St Andrew's Hospice by supporters. So far this season the club have donated £750 to the Hospice with cash taken from the gate.

With Old Firm fans left with a free Saturday, club chiefs hope for a good turnout in Airdrie.

It will be a 2pm kick-off at MTC Park.
