St Andrew’s Hospice is benefiting from another record sum raised at the annual charity golf day held by maintenance firm Mears.
The event at Pollok golf club raised £25,000 – outstripping last year’s amount and reaching the ambitious target set by its organisers.
It saw former Rangers player Gordon Smith give a speech and run the auction, while golf professional Scott Garrett donated his fee to the hospice and the funds were further boosted by a busy raffle.
Mears managing director Barry Duncan said: “We are always amazed by the work at St Andrew’s Hospice, and we know how much each donation means to the charity.
“Our annual golf day was a great success and we’re delighted to have hit this year’s fundraising target; I want to thank everyone who worked hard to make the event so successful, and everyone who came on the day and helped us raise money for such a fantastic cause.”
Mears has had a fundraising partnership with the Airdrie hospice for more than 10 years, and the funds will go towards providing specialist care for patients from across Lanarkshire who have life-limiting illnesses, and supporting their carers and loved ones.
Deputy head of fundraising Louise O’Donnell said: “The amount raised at the golf day was phenomenal and we are so grateful to Mears and everyone who supported the event both on the day and by making donations.
“The outstanding help and support they give to St Andrew’s Hospice on an ongoing basis is tremendous, and we couldn’t provide care and support for people and their families – both in the hospice and in the wider community – without businesses like Mears.
“We’re truly thankful for everything they do to help us as they always go above and beyond to help in any way possible, and this money will go a long way to help local people in the communities we serve.”
