Airdrie Harriers ace earns top Scottish Schools Indoor Championship medal

Airdrie kid Bailey Gallagher earned a top medal at the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships – but proud dad Martin says it’s hard work that is the ultimate prize.

The St Margaret’s High School pupil became the under-16 indoor champion for 60 metres in an impressive 7.29 seconds at the Emirates Arena.

Delighted Martin said it was all down to the hard work of Bailey – who puts in four training sessions a week with the Airdrie Harriers.

He told Lanarkshire Live Sport: “The progress he’s made since starting is brilliant to see.

“It’s a lot of hard work for him but he just loves it.

“It’s great for him that he was the fastest out of a huge group, one that had boys who were playing for Rangers and Celtic as well.

“He puts in work like you wouldn’t believe; he was out running on New Year’s Day.

“That’s the things that makes me happiest. It’s not the medals, it’s to see how dedicated he is to the work.

“It has helped him make huge strides.

“He is also balancing it really well with his Nat 5 exams, which is great to see.”
