Airdrie could have been better, despite 5-1 win over Clyde, says boss Rhys McCabe

Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe says his side's quality showed as they beat Clyde 5-1 at New Douglas Park tonight, but he wasn't completely happy with the performance.

Gabby McGill's double and a wonder-strike by Justin Devenny had Airdrie 3-1 by the interval, with Kyle Doherty' first Clyde goal levelling at 1-1.

Adam Frizzell and Callum Smith put the polish on a top performance, pushing Airdrie up to third in League one.

McCabe said: "I didn't think it was a fantastic performance. I thought there were areas of the game that we could have done a lot better in, but the score-line suggests that we were dominant.

"For large periods there Clyde were in the game and it took real moments of quality in terms of our finishing and attacking play, to carve them open and some well-worked goals.

"We were clinical. It's probably something we've probably adapted to and tried to show that last week was a totally different game.

"We dominated the ball, the fluidity and the way that we played was excellent, but it was a different type of game today.

"The conditions made it difficult, they set up in a system and a style to try and penetrate, as well as make it hard for us.

"It was important that we didn't deviate too much from what has worked well for us in the last couple of weeks and thankfully we got the three points."

McCabe added: "You're always happy when you're scoring the goals, and strikers and forwards will get the plaudits, but the main objective in coming here was never what the score-line was - it was about the performance, can we get a solid three points and continue that momentum that we've built over the last three weeks, and can we take that forward."
