Airdrie can win Premier Sports Cup group, says delighted boss Ian Murray

Airdrie boss Ian Murray has targeted topping the Premier Sports Cup Group F table on Saturday as they ride on the wave of their stunning 2-0 win over Motherwell at New Broomfield.

Goals from Rhys McCabe and Scott McGill gave the Diamonds the win, which puts them level on six points going into the last round of games.

Airdrie are at Queen of the South, while Motherwell host Annan Athletic, with a win for either side seeing them through.

Delighted Diamonds boss Murray said: "If we win that we're through, we'll be top of the group. I don't know what the goal difference is, but it must be decent for us.

Murray was delighted with his side's performance (SNS Group)

"We've only conceded once in the three games, which is really pleasing, and gives us a base to start the league campaign as well.

"Now it's a huge game; we've not played a league game and you're facing a real crunch game, but just to be in that game and to make it so big is fantastic."

Murray says their result tonight will have made other take notice, but Airdrie won't be cruising into their clash at Palmerston Park.

He said: "Queen of the South won't be treating us lightly but we won't be treating them lightly either.

"There are a few ex-players there who have a point to prove, so it's up to us to keep them quiet!"
