Airdrie butchers' steak pie wins silver prize at Scottish Craft Butchers awards

STAFF at award-winning Airdrie butchers Fergusons are celebrating once again after their steak pie scooped a prize at a prestigious national industry event.

The team at the family-owned Buchanan Street business were delighted to receive a silver gong for their traditional pie at the recent Scottish Craft Butchers awards.

Fergusons’ owner Scott Johnston told the Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser: “We are overwhelmed to get rewarded.

“All the staff here work hard to achieve every award we get. It’s great to receive positive feedback from our customers; it makes us all feel appreciated.”

More than 280 pies were tested for their appearance, flavour, fillings and appeal by a panel of expert judges, food writers and consumers.

And Scott, 28, who recently took over the business from his uncle Graeme, follows in a long line of master butchers.

He has inherited his passion for the trade from his dad, grandad and uncle – and is now keen to put his own stamp on the popular business.

He added: “I’ve worked here since I was 21 and have been here for nearly eight years.

“The shop has also been given a fresh new look and it’s getting even busier which is always good.”
